The danger of mixture

We’re living in a time of profound confusion—a season where people are desperately searching for answers, often in all the wrong places. There’s a growing fascination with the supernatural, yet so many are being led astray by false sources of power.
Lately, I’ve felt a spiritual heaviness—a sense of warfare taking place in the unseen realm. The Holy Spirit has been reminding me of a dream I had months ago, one I still don’t fully understand but that continues to stir my spirit. In it, I saw two great beasts locked in battle, fighting fiercely for dominion. It was as if they were contending for control over souls.
I share this because I believe it’s a wake-up call. We cannot ignore the rise of cultural evil that seeks to silence truth and undermine the biblical values meant to guide this generation. The fight is real, and it’s happening now—in the heavens and in our hearts.
The Bible says in Ephesians 6:12 (NLT),
“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”
The battle we’re in isn’t physical—it’s spiritual. We’re up against dark forces, fallen angels, and evil spirits that hold real power in the unseen world. Even though we can’t see them, their influence is all around us, working to create chaos and confusion.
This leads me to what I am about to discuss today: Jesus said in Matthew 24:12,
“Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.”
There is an increase in wickedness and lawlessness, especially among people who profess to be Christians.
The Rise of Mixture and Compromise
We are currently in a particularly unsettling and perilous spiritual season. Even in the physical world, you can observe people preparing and gathering for activities that openly celebrate darkness. What is even more concerning is that some within the church—those who profess to follow Christ—are beginning to participate in these same practices, considering them harmless fun. However, we must recognise that there is nothing harmless about darkness.
This is what we call syncretism—trying to mix Christianity with witchcraft, divination, or other spiritual practices that do not align with God’s Word. It is the belief that one can be both a Christian and still engage in occult or traditional spiritual rituals.
Unfortunately, in many parts of Africa where I come from, people have been misled into believing that visiting a traditional healer who combines natural medicine with spiritual rituals is harmless—even Christian. However, this is deception. If such practices involve sacrifices, blood, or rituals invoking spirits, they are witchcraft, regardless of how culturally normal they seem.
This is happening everywhere in our culture today, not just in Africa. I feel like there is a growing, deliberate worship of witchcraft and the New Age, call it what you will. This worship is empowering it further, with Hollywood and the music industry attempting to normalise it by openly showcasing it for all to see. Christians who are not standing firm will start to think, “Oh, it’s okay to mix and match.”
This is what we call mixture—when what is holy becomes blended with what is unholy, when the pure Word of God is diluted with demonic influence. And because of this mixture, the spiritual discernment of many believers has grown dull.
This is what keeps many bound. Cultural and traditional rituals often appear protective or beneficial, but they are rooted in the occult. The spirits behind those practices bewitch people, creating strong emotional and spiritual allegiance to the culture and tradition, blinding them to the truth.
That’s why Scripture says:
“The god of this world has blinded the minds of unbelievers so that they cannot see the light of the gospel.” (2 Corinthians 4:4)
So, understand this: when witchcraft is normalised, it blinds people’s souls and entire communities. Bewitchment causes people to follow lies, mistaking demonic power for divine power. Until the accursed things are destroyed, freedom cannot come.
The Biblical Warning
In the book of Joshua 7:11–12, we learn that Israel could not stand against their enemies because they had brought accursed things into their camp. They mixed what was holy with what was defiled, and this mixture caused their downfall.
The Bible says:
“Israel has sinned, and they have also transgressed My covenant which I commanded them. For they have even taken some of the accursed things, and have both stolen and deceived, and they have also put it among their own stuff.”(Joshua 7:11)
Because of this, God said:
“Therefore, the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies… Neither will I be with you anymore unless you destroy the accursed things from among you.” (Joshua 7:12)
In other words, as long as the accursed things remained, God’s presence departed, and destruction ensued.
The Call to Purity and Separation
God is calling His people to purity, separation, and discernment—to destroy every accursed thing, renounce every ungodly covenant, and return fully to Him.
God’s Word is clear:
“Come out from among them and be separate.” (2 Corinthians 6:17)
Let us remember this truth: we cannot serve two masters. Light and darkness will never blend, for one must always drive out the other. In the same way, the Holy Spirit cannot dwell where unclean spirits remain. May we choose to walk fully in the light—surrendering every part of our hearts to the Spirit of God, so that His presence alone reigns within us.
Stay blessed.
